Yesterday we sadly said farewell to our Chairperson, founder and most passionate driver of the 24hr, Cr Fred Borg. Fred had an advanced but undetected illness which thankfully caused no major symptoms until a short time ago. His care was managed according to his wishes and he passed away on Tuesday morning at Campbelltown Hospital with family by his side.
Yesterday, council employees and community members formed a guard of honour through Campbelltown streets, the church was filled to overflowing and the Catholic Club hosted a gathering for mourners in The Cube. All fitting tributes to a much loved and respected man of the people. Fred’s tireless work over many decades has undoubtedly made the Macarthur community a better place. He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and his 24hr Family. At the opening of this year’s event Fred urged participants to go further and this we will do.
The 24hr Fight Against Cancer committee extend their sincere condolences to his wife Maria, his children Paul, Wayne, Donna and Harmony and his grandchildren Mathew, Daniel, Ryan, Kimberley, Amber, Jade, Shennen, Shakeel, Stevie, Jess and Samantha.
Rest easy our dear friend, mentor and leader.
